Changes to PositioNZ Base Station Data

BACKGROUND

PositioNZ is Land Information New Zealand’s (LINZ's) network of continuously tracking Global Positioning System (GPS) stations at locations across New Zealand, two in the Chatham Islands and three in Antarctica. To find out more click here...

The network provides GPS carrier phase and code range measurements in support of three dimensional positioning activities throughout New Zealand. The PositioNZ network enables users to position points with an accuracy that approaches a few centimetres relative to New Zealand Geodetic Datum 2000 (NZGD2000), both horizontally and vertically.

THE CHANGES

  • Additions to network
5 base stations have now been included, they are: Code Station Name CHTI Chatham Island North KTIA Kaitaia WARK Warkworth WHKT Whakatane PYGR Puysegur Point

To ensure you have all the PositioNZ’s base stations available, your base station list in Trimble Pathfinder Office or the Trimble GPS Analyst extension for ArcGIS needs to be updated. See below for instructions on how to update the list.

  • File types and availability:
The data are recorded at 30 second intervals and is now supplied as RINEX files of either 1 hour or 24 hour duration. This data can be used in post processing of data from roving GPS receivers to accurately locate them. This data is available free of charge and there are no restrictions on the use of the RINEX data.

The hourly data files are usually available within 15 to 20 minutes of the end of the hour and are only available up to 1 month after collection. The daily data are usually available within 1 to 2 hours of the end of the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) day once it has passed a number of quality control measures.

To ensure you have both hourly and daily options, your base station list in Trimble Pathfinder Office or the Trimble GPS Analyst extension for ArcGIS needs to be updated.

See below for instructions on how to update the list.
