AHB Contractors
As you are aware from 1 July 2008 it will be a requirement in all AHB monitoring contracts, specifying the use of the NPCA Possum Population Monitoring protocol, that VectorLink is used.
VectorLink software is available free of charge, but you will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining suitable hardware to operate this software.
The AHB has appointed GeoSystems as an approved supplier of hardware that will meet all the requirements for the successful use of this software out in the field.

The Trimble Nomad
The newest unit from Trimble, an ULTRA rugged PDA.
What is it?
The Nomad is an all in one PDA and GPS receiver. This means that you don’t have to worry about any other equipment – it is fully operational by itself. It has bright, sunlight readable display and a touch screen.
The internal GPS is a SIRF III chip so it is extremly high sensitivity. We have recently made some slight changes to the setup of the GPS and the performance of the Nomad is almost equivalent to the most sensitive Garmin units - even in the toughest conditions!
With a rating of IP67, this is the toughest PDA available. It will survive sand dust and mud, drops of over a meter onto concrete, 30min submerged in water, and extreme temperatures (-30deg). This means that in the harshest of working conditions, you won’t have to worry about this PDA keeping pace. In fact after 3 months of Nomad use, we have only had one unit needing service - It was run over by a vehicle!
At just 550grams it fits comfortably in your hand and its small enough to keep on your belt or the front pocket of your pack.
The Nomad has a battery life of 10-12 hours continuous use! If you’re going to be in the field for longer than a couple of days pack a couple of spare batteries. The Nomad can also be charged using a 12V vehicle adapter, or you can even run the Nomad on AA batteries using a simple adapter! So making sure you have enough power won’t be a problem.
The Nomad comes fully tested and working with a screen protector applied. It has everything you need to get up and running
- Loaded with a 1GB memory card and with the VectorLink Software installed
- USB cable and Activesync software
-allows you to transfer all of your data to and from your computer - Lithium Ion rechargeable battery with wall charger
- Spare screen protector, a stylus, a lanyard, a handstrap, a user guide and a quick start CD
There is also a full range of accessories available.
Geosystems has two qualified Trimble technicians in a fully equipped service centre based in our Auckland office. This means that we can quickly turn around any repairs or servicing that is required.
We also have several support staff that have expert knowledge on the Nomads. So when you ring our 0800 GEOSYS number needing some help you can rest assured that you will be able to talk to someone who knows the unit and can understand the issue’s you may be having.
GeoSystems understand that not everyone has capital on hand to invest in these great new products. So we have partnered up with rental finance company Flexirent.
Flexirent can offer you “FlexiOwn”; a rent-to-own system that gives you an additional way of owning your Nomad.
Flexirent provide a very fast and simple application process, and their system has some excellent benefits:

- Tax deductible for business use. GST is claimable up front as if purchasing by cash. Interest and depreciation are claimed as a tax deduction (consult your tax advisor for details).
- No booking/establishment fee.
How does it Work?
- Ring GeoSystems on 0800 GEOSYS (436 797), select the package that best suit you, or come to us with your own requirements.
- Then you ring the Flexirent Call Centre on 0800 444 827 and answer a few questions to see if you are eligible to receive finance.
- If successful, Flexirent will phone us to get an exact cost of goods for their records. They will then email or fax you through their terms and conditions, once these are completed and returned to them we can ship the goods.
